External Services

Online Availability Check (System Services) shows the availability of external online catalogue, image and map services used in this project.

Display of Works

Any work may be displayed on one or more pages. To find the pages where a work is referenced, see: Index of Referenced Works. One page may be flagged as a catalogue or primary page.

ScreenshotA work is presented with title, institution and reference, thumbnail image, link using institution title (which may differ) and reference, artist, my estimated date, Appleyard's catalogue number, dimensions, and catalogue or primary page. Following that is descriptive text with possible links to more information in the catalogue (or main entry), or a map.

Use of Images

Art work images are not stored but are dynamically displayed from the online services of the holding institutions.

Link and/or Image Unavailable

Thumbnail image for unavailable link or imageLink and/or image unavailable online at time of writing

This image displays when there's no available link to a catalogue and/or image in the holding institution (or public alternative).

In the case of AGSA works that aren't available in their public online catalogue, a link is still provided using the accession number in anticipation of it becoming available later, but in the meantime it just reverts to the AGSA home page.

I've generally viewed these works either in person or images provided for the purpose of study.

Representation of Dates

Dates in the descriptive text are generally in yyyy-mm-dd format and more specifically in Extended Date/Time Format (EDTF).

Catalogue Differences

I sometimes reach conclusions that differ from the institution catalogues. Where a difference is quite straightforward I sometimes communicate this with the institution. Other conclusions here need to be tested by others over time.

When I assign a different title to a work I retain the holding institution's title in the link.

I occasionally re-attribute authorship to Gill, in particular from G.F. Angas and W.A. Cawthorne. I explain the rational in these cases and note the artist as "Gill, S.T. (attr.)."

Key to Collecting Institutions
